Health is everyone’s business. When we talk about health, we think about hospitals, clinics and diseases that people have. But the vast majority of the factors and exposures that influence health lie outside of the healthcare sector. So while we subconsciously feel and act as though health is the responsibility of the healthcare sector, in reality, the spaces where health is made or undermined are all around us.

The pandemic has highlighted this. You don’t see everyone else going about their business and saying, well, you know we’ll leave the healthcare sector to deal with a pandemic because it’s got nothing to do with us. COVID-19 has been so pervasive, and it highlighted the multi-dimensional and cross-sectoral determinants that drive health.
