Brenda Ngoya is an urban designer and the Nairobi UrbanBetter Hub Coordinator, working within the Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI), where she also serves in the planning and research department. She holds an undergraduate degree in Urban Design and Development from the Technical University of Kenya and is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar pursuing a Master’s in Sustainable Lands and Cities at the University of Edinburgh. Brenda’s work sits at the intersection of research, participatory planning, and implementation, with a strong emphasis on climate resilience in informal and underserved urban contexts. At KDI, she leads & supports interdisciplinary teams through socio-economic research, community engagement, monitoring and evaluation, and coordination of resilience-focused interventions. Through UrbanBetter, she is passionate about translating research into actionable, community-driven urban solutions, strengthening knowledge exchange, and centering lived experience in climate and development decision-making across African cities.
