Waziri Mainasara is an Economist, Environmentalist and Health Advocate with a Master’s degree in Economics, applying a people-centred and policy-oriented lens to environmental and urban development challenges.
He works at the intersection of community engagement, youth leadership, and citizen science, facilitating collaboration between policymakers, community actors, and young people to strengthen social cohesion, belonging, and urban well-being. He has trained and mentored young people in sustainable practices such as active mobility, civic action, and environmental monitoring, supporting them to build resilience and amplify their voices.
Waziri serves as Hub Liaison Officer supporting and coordinating Cityzens Hubs across multiple countries — In addition, he provides oversight of the Lagos Cityzens Hub (supporting the Hub Coordinator). His work focuses on strengthening hub delivery, shared learning, and youth-driven citizen science to close data gaps on Africa’s air quality and other climate-related risks, and advance data-informed civic action for healthier, more sustainable cities.
Waziri is also a fitness enthusiast and runner, and co-founder of Fit Trackers, a run and fitness group promoting physical and mental well-being through active lifestyles. His engagement with UrbanBetter deepened his work in the environmental space, leading him to complete professional courses in Nature Education and Environmental Education from Cornell University, as well as Project Management for Non-Project Managers from Alison.
He is also the founder of World Environmental Education Desk (wEEd), a digital education initiative that uses social media—particularly TikTok—to simplify and share knowledge on air pollution, climate change, and environmental health.
